Why is most of the “poetry” posted here comprised of either Hallmark crap or prose broken up into stanzas
Scotty: This is the first time I’ve seen a post by you.
You misunderstood my question, Baby Blue. “Stanza crap?” Um, okay…
Hugh, don’t look now, but you’re writing poetry, sort of.

I suggest reading some Albert Goldbarth. I met him briefly while teaching in Wichita, Kansas. World-reknowned poet, and he doesn’t rhyme ever.

Why is it that every time I see you, you are criticizing.
Coz originals are neva understood by people below sea level!!
Get a life dawg!
I WROTE LOVERLY POETRY AND POSTED IT TO POETRY.COM WHERE ON HERE CAN ONE SHARE THEIR POETRY?
stop asking stupid Questions… Im almost 14 and I learned about the stanza crap. It pretty much is set up that way 2 either be more prophetic, or for whatever that saying is… its the proper way 2 write a damn poem!
Because if these Yahoo’s knew how to write poetry…
They sure wouldn’t post them here for free for all the world to see and steal…
They would enter them in contests and/or try to get them published…
(But in defense…I’ve actually read a few “stunningly good” poems here before…although I must agree…they’re few and far between…)
(At least the kids are tryin’, and they are learning that they shouldn’t attempt to pursue that area at the same time they’re actually typing words instead of playing violent, mindlessly simple video games on their computer…at least not until AFTER they’ve written their crappy salute to greeting card prose…)
Why are you so cynical? In every post I’ve seen by you so far, you’re complaining.
Hallmark crap? that hall mark “crap” has more meaningful sentiment then most modern artsy fartzy crap that are churned out, that don’t rhyme or express any meaningful purpose other then to be cheered on by stuck up judgmental morons who seem to believe “good” poetry comes from “poets”, without even opening their eyes and seeing the beauty of poems written by amateur’s in states of emotional anguish or joy.
People are trying to express emotion, and stanzas are a familiar format for people to think of in reference to poetry. Try to be judgemental only in constructive ways, and this can be a helpful forum for people trying to develop their poetic skills.
We all have our own styles and tastes. Free write may rule right now but some people still like rhyming poems.
Short answer: Because a lot of people here want to express themselves in writing, and they are still learning how to do that.
Some post for their vanity and will likely never improve. Those who work at it dilligently will likely end up producing good work–everyone starts somewhere. So, yes there is dross, but there is also some gold.
